About Barry

Barry Hartglass is best known for his can-do enthusiasm and uncompromising personal support. He believes strongly in creative flow and mental dedication to the creative process.

For decades, I’ve been working as a producer, engineer, composer, arranger, and musician. I’m usually working in my home studio in Carmel, New York, with a collection of eclectic instruments, inspirational books I love to recommend, and three cats (with minimal creative input). I travel to Hofstra University, Mercy College and Hostos Community College as an adjunct professor, and sometimes record at commercial studios in New York City and throughout the Tri-state Area.

My personal music dips into contemporary classical, jazz and world influences, but as a producer I prefer to experience the variety of styles and hybrids unique to each of my clients. Everything is welcome in my studio except doubt. My goal is not just to make music, but to make music that makes you a more confident and prolific artist. My greatest work with clients has been in learning to ask the right questions, and to hold ourselves accountable in finding the most fulfilling musical answers.

Testimonials

Michelle Wenis, singer/songwriter at Green Woman & Your Childbirth

Working with Barry Hartglass has been terrific. He reads minds. He translates what I can only understand in my language, to his, so everything gels and everything fits just right for all. Really hope to get back to his recording studio this week!

Victoria Faiella, singer/songwriter at Incandescent Records

I appreciate all the dedication and hard work you have put into this project. It's easy to get lost in tweaking small things and one can often forget to mention all the beautiful moments. There are so many beautiful moments! Yours is a rare blend of musicality, proficiency and heart.

Jared Gordon, Winter Twilight Productions

His melodic, haunting scores for my independent short films and features have added so much to my production values and I would highly, highly recommend his work to anyone. He is a versatile and always professional musician.

Donna Cori Gibson

I think it is so cool that I can say something and you just know what to do, and always meet or exceed my expectation. Or, I can say 'I hate it' and you know just what to change and it’s no big ego thing. You are so good at taking what I 'hear' in my head and making it a reality.

Adam Glaser, The Juilliard School

'Vudu' is fantastic. There is such creativity and depth of musicianship throughout this entire CD. The tunes are beautiful, the solos are outstanding, and the recording and mixing seem to have been done with great sensitivity. Well done!

Tom Nazziola, composer/orchestrator

Some of my favorite sessions and best-sounding tracks have taken place at Barry’s studio.  He’s is a stickler for high quality, clean sound and detailed engineering. He deeply understands every aspect of the recording process. In any style, Barry will serve your needs beyond expectation.

Annie Karto, singer/songwriter at Windswept Records

Barry has enabled me to receive numerous awards and acknowledgements in my genre. He has an outstanding ear for creating music, and for capturing the essence of an individual. He is patient, encouraging, and very easy to work with. His knowledge and interpersonal skills make him an A-list producer.
